Keystone 2020- What to Expect this December

December 17, 2020 by Summit Express

Expectations for December: Keystone Colorado

Every time you visit the Rocky Mountains you can expect to be surrounded by take-your-breath-away beauty and the world’s BEST recreational downhill terrain. Keystone is no exception.  So here is what you’ll need to expect this December.

Keystone is the perfect location for an unforgettable Christmas getaway. The mountain is open for skiing and boarding. Mother nature has provided a solid base. Snow making technicians have been hard at work making and moving snow around the entire mountain. Conditions are great. Of course, we want more snow!! Reminder: When you pray for snow, pray for snow in our mountains.

For the most updated conditions, visit Keystone’s website or checkout their live mountain camera. https://www.keystoneresort.com/the-mountain/mountain-conditions/mountain-cams.aspx

I’ve skied Keystone several times this December. Its been AWESOME.  Here’s what you can expect on the mountain.

SE’s account manager enjoying another blue bird day at Keystone Resort

  • Reservations to ski are required in advance.  I can not stress this enough. Reservations are required and can be purchased here: https://www.epicpass.com/info/reservation-details.aspx
  • Masks are required in all public areas including the lift line. It’s non-negotiable. For the safety of your family and others, please wear your mask. There are plenty of Keystone employees to help you with questions, direct you to ski school, carry your gear and to enforce this county mandated safety measure.
  • Gondola is restricted to parties traveling together. What this means is it takes a little longer to get up the mountain than years past, especially if you are riding as a single. Ski-like-a-local tip: Consult your trail map while enjoying the scenic gondola ride. Look for mid-mountain lifts, like Montezuma to avoid the base area. If you do ski to the base, take the Summit Express lift back up, instead of the gondola. The lines are shorter and you will not have to take off your skis. Check out the trail map: https://www.keystoneresort.com/the-mountain/about-the-mountain/trail-map.aspx
  • Plan your breaks. Indoor dining is closed on the mountain. Restrooms are open. There are grab and go food options mid-mountain, but you will have to eat and enjoy that beer outside on picnic tables. Restaurants in the village are open for outdoor seating. Keystone has enhanced outdoor heaters but it’s not the same as warming up for an hour over lunch at a mid-mountain lodge. Plan ahead. Eat a protein-packed breakfast before you hit the slopes. Pack a granola bar in your jacket.  For more information about dining at Keystone: https://www.keystoneresort.com/explore-the-resort/during-your-stay/dining.aspx
  • DRINK WATER.  Keystone’s base is 9,280 feet in elevation. Humidity at high altitude is very low. As a result, you may not be able to know how much moisture has evaporated from your skin. Ski-like-a-local tip: The best way to avoid injuries is to ski terrain within your ability level. Don’t forget to take breaks, especially because on-mountain lodges are not open. Remember to rest your muscles!

Keep these tips in mind when you are planning your day on the mountain and you will have a blast!!

Plus, when your ski day is over, there are still plenty of fun activities and sites to see. Bundle up and enjoy everything Summit County has to offer.

  • Dillon Marina Park has a giant LED Holiday Tree with music and a choreographed light show on display nightly from 5p-9p. for more information on Dillon events: https://www.townofdillon.com/events
  • If you need more holiday lights, check out Silverthorne’s displays. https://www.silverthorne.org/discover-silverthorne/visitor-s-guide/holiday-light-guide
  • If lights aren’t your thing, try bowling. Elevation Bowl in Dillon has 16 brand new lanes and is open and accepting reservations. 970-368-6435
  • Or go tubing in Keystone. https://www.keystoneresort.com/explore/mountaintop-snow-tubing-confirmation.aspx

IMG 3862Physical Distancing is a drag, but don’t let it ruin your vacation. There is still plenty to see and do. We are so happy you are coming to Colorado.  The skiing is amazing. Enjoy your holidays. Have Fun. Be Safe and remember to follow all county protocols.

Do’s and Don’ts: Last Minute Bookings

December 9, 2020 by Kevin W

the Do’s and mostly Don’ts: Last Minute Bookings

summit expess infograph

Planning on coming out to Summit County to ski and snowboard this year?  If so, make sure you are ahead of the game this season.

With new restrictions in town it has become a little more tricky to travel to the mountains. . .but that does not mean it has to be stressful.  Here are some tips to make sure your travel plans go smoothly.

Trip Tips:

  1. Traveling with a big party?  If that’s the case. . try to plan on splitting larger groups in two.  With current restrictions in place it is MUCH easier to book reservations with smaller parties.  Staying together of course is always the main goal but for travel purposes and booking accommodations you may have more luck searching for a services with a smaller party.                                                                                          **We truly love bringing people up to our beautiful home, which is why we always suggest booking in advance.  https://www.summitexpress.com/
  2. Make sure to call hotels ahead of time. Many establishments are only allowing same family parties into accommodations.  Looking for solo accommodations may be easier than traveling with a group. Here’s a good read for anyone coming into town  https://www.summitcountyco.gov/DocumentCenter/View/27752/Amended-and-Restated-PH-Order—COVID-19
  3. Book your ski/ride reservations ahead of time!  We’ve already seen the tragic stories~ People  booked a 5 day trip and only could reserve 1 day of skiing so they ended up cutting the trip short and flying home.  Make sure if you are skiing with an epic pass that you make reservations ahead of time.  A ski trip with no skiing is never a good time.     https://www.epicpass.com/info/reservation-details.aspx
  4. Riding Copper?  Make sure to book a parking reservation if you are driving or plan on taking the free Summit Stage bus.  https://www.coppercolorado.com/plan-your-trip/getting-here/parking     Last minute bookings have been available here so this might be the first actual DO’s in terms of do’s and don’ts for last minute booking.  If you do not find a spot, NO SWEAT just hop on the Summit Stage and bus on over to Copper.  No need for a parking pass if you aren’t parking!  https://summitcountyco.gov/DocumentCenter/View/29947/Copper-Mtn-Win-20-21

All in all. . . the theme this winter is to make sure you are planning ahead.  Last minute/spur the moment trips are always the best kinds BUT in these trying times booking ahead is always going to be the safest and most dependable option.

Lastly, whether you like the restrictions or not please adhere to all rules and regulations.  I know this is a vacation town to most but to a lot of us this is a place we call home.  We constantly have visitors coming and going from Summit County so please be courteous and keep our town and its locals safe.  We all want to get back to work! Please help keep our season alive.

With that being said PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE support all the local business you can during your stay here.  If you are ordering take out food or using any kind of services here please make sure to TIP.  There are lots of people who make their living off tips and are currently taking huge cuts to make sure all our visitors can still experience how lovely are county truly is.  Please HELP US HELP YOU!

Be safe out there everybody.

Your Guidebook: The 2020-21 Ski Season in Summit County, Colorado

September 3, 2020 by Summit Express

2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and we have been dreaming of the upcoming ski season, which has certainly helped our spirits. As we begin to understand what the ski season will look like, we know it will be a great time on the slopes. Here’s the latest of what we know up here in Breckenridge and all of Summit County. Hopefully this will give you some information to help you plan your mountain adventure this winter.

Steven Zupparo – Director of Sales, Summit Express

What we know:

The Rocky Mountains are still here and there will be people skiing this Winter. The resorts are being very proactive in adopting new systems and procedures to keep their guests as safe as possible. Being on the mountain lends itself to physical distancing and since most of us already wear some sort of face-covering masks won’t be a problem.

Vail Resorts, which operates Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail, and Beaver Creek, implemented a new reservation system to allow them to monitor and limit if necessary the number of skiers on the mountain for any given day. This may require travelers to plan ahead to ensure they are able to ski on peak days but there are other benefits of planning ahead as well, more on this later.

What you may not know:

The resorts we service are all offering multi-day ski pass/pack that give a substantial discount off regular lift tickets. These are sold for a limited time and are usually taken off sale by the middle of September but they have been extended for an unknown period of time. We do not expect these to be available much longer. For details click the links below.

Copper Mountain Multi Packs

As of today they are offering a four-pack for $399! That is less than $100 a day! They are also offering a full refund by December 10th as long as none of the days are used. These are still available as of October 14th but we do not expect them to be available much longer.

Vail Resorts Epic Pass / Epic Day

Vail Resorts, which operates Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail, and Beaver Creek ski resorts are offering ski passes for up to 7 days at up to a 50% savings off a single-day lift ticket. As important as the savings it also allows you to reserve up to 7 days of skiing before single-day lift tickets go on sale which will not before December 8th. This is key for locking in your ski days especially over the busy holiday times. For details: Vail Resorts Reservation System

What Should You Do?

PLAN AHEAD. Even if you are thinking you may want to come up and enjoy the mountains you should consider booking now. You will save considerably on all parts of your trip from lodging, airfare, and even Summit Express transportation. Peak travel dates are already filling up so book now to ensure availability and a low price. We have also expanded our private charter offerings for those who would like the entire vehicle for their party. Most companies have adjusted their cancellation policies to allow for the uncertainty of the current times. Make sure that you check these policies before you book but many are offering refunds if you have to cancel your trip. With a little homework, you should be able to book your ski vacation at a great price with the flexibility to change if necessary.

What Should You Expect?

Summit and Eagle Counties have been extremely proactive in regards to their COVID-19 policies from when this started back in March. It has paid off with both counties being as safe as a place to visit as anywhere in the U.S. They will continue to do so and you expect to have to wear face-covering when indoors and possibly on the slopes. You should also plan to make reservations during busy times at most restaurants. Check with the resort, airline, and county websites for updates to COVID-19 safety measures often and before your trip. You can always check with us at Summit Express as well. We will keep updates on our website and social media pages.

What we will be doing – Summit Express promises to implement whatever protocols that are needed to keep you safe on our vehicles. Our vehicles will be fogged with a state of the art disinfectant system after EVERY run, we have installed dividers between our drivers and guests in all vans and our drivers will be subject to health screenings, our drivers and guests will be required to wear face coverings and we have reduced capacity to 50% in all of our shared shuttles. Summit County has some of the strictest health measures in the county and we will follow their regulations which means our services may be the safest thing you do on your vacation.

Don’t be Left in the Cold

March 10, 2020 by Lora B

March is our busiest time of the year!

dont delay 3

Schedule your arrivals and depatures EARLY– we do sell out.  So do all the other transportation services :0

tips

Other hints when booking…

  1. If you dont have a flight to catch choose NO FLT
  2. If you’re going from the airport to the mountains enter an hour before you’re desired pick up time (our system thinks you need that time to pick up bags etc…)
  3. If you’re going from the mountains to the airport- it’s a 4-5 hour window that our system wants.  If you want to leave Breck at 12 PM/noon, enter 4 or 5 PM for your “flight time”.
  4. Keep in mind the trip is 2 1/2 to 3 hours depending on traffic and road conditions.
  5. I 70 has frequent delays and slow traffic if there is snow falling, so plan accordingly!

The exceptional personal service provided by everyone in your company from the online chat, phone calls with customer service agent, drivers and representative at the airport, arriving for pick up at the EXACT time, sending text message reminders… Your company excels at everything a customer wants and needs. The bottom line is that you provide a personal experience, in the future we will only use your company.

Our flight arrived a little early. A quick phone call Summit Express was able to change our reservation to put us on the next pickup, instead of waiting another two hours in the airport. We were on our way to our final destination in minutes!

I want to thank you for your excellent services yesterday in particularly lousy weather. Your team called me on Saturday to alert me to impending weather concerns and the fact that I might have troubles making my flight home Sunday. The dispatcher put me on an earlier than planned shuttle and got me to the airport on time. The trip from FTC to DIA took four hours and your driver Dave did a nice job. I will use your service again and I will recommended it to others. The bottled water was appreciated as well.
